I have a confession to make… I’m a coffee addict, and if you’re like me, I’d be a wreck without the invention of capsule coffee machines.

I don’t know about you, but without a shot of caffeine in the morning, I’m a bit of a wreck. I’m a busy business man with not a lot of time on my hands. What with running my IT consultancy, driving my two girls to school in the morning and trying to find time to stay fit with gym, cycling and swimming, I just don’t have the luxury of time to brew a ground coffee from scratch.

B.K. (before kids), my wife and I used to really enjoy going shopping for new and interesting flavours of coffee beans to try out, and we had somewhat of a ritual in the mornings preparing and grinding the coffee in various ways for our trusty coffee plunger (commonly known as a french coffee press), to have with our croissants or bagels.

But with the addition of our kids to our lives, we soon realised that our carefree coffee grinding days were over. In fact, the only time we get out the plunger is when we have a dinner party.

So soon after the kids came onto the scene, we were faced with several options, one of which involved instant coffee (no thanks…I’d rather go without). Thankfully, I managed to combine my love for coffee and gadgets and came up with a compromise – capsule coffee machines!!

Capsule coffee machines are a fairly recent phenomenon, with the first modern patent on the coffee capsules they used being granted in 1976.

These early machines suffered from all sorts of issues – blockages, unrealiability and really crappy tasting coffee. However, technology has been steadily improving over recent years and now capsule coffee machines have become a mainstream and essential kitchen appliance (some would say life-saving device) for people all over the world. The quality of the coffee capsules have improved markedly as well, with some of the more expensive brands producing some really decent coffees.

Capsule coffee machines have recently been put in the spotlight by Nescafe with their George Clooney ads. People have realised that they don’t need to sacrifice quality for convenience. Capsule coffee machines have become extremely good value for money recently, and with easy and cheap access to a wide variety of coffee capsules, now allow busy people like you and me to enjoy a decent cup of coffee, without having to stuff around with coffee beans, filters and all that boring stuff.

A lot of my business involves developing and managing websites for customers, so recently I decided to spend a bit of time (and money) creating my own little website, dedicated to showcasing some of the most popular capsule coffee machines on the market today.
